GUIDING NEXT GEN LEADERS.
AMPLIFYING DIVERSE VOICES.

Mana Wāhine I Power Women is a network that supports and connects wāhine, from the shop floor to the C-Suite across the energy sector. Our vision is to amplify diverse voices, and guide the next generation of leadership.

The purpose of the network extends beyond mere connectivity; it aims to foster an environment where women can thrive and excel in their careers. By bringing together women from diverse backgrounds and roles, the network harnesses collective knowledge, experience, and support, enabling members to overcome industry-specific challenges and break through barriers.

Through its initiatives and events, Mana Wāhine empowers women to take on leadership roles, champion innovative solutions, and drive actionable change within their organisations and the broader energy landscape.

The network was established in 2019 by women in the sector to create an improved sense of belonging and opportunities for women. Mana Wāhine runs in-person and virtual networking events across Aotearoa. These typically occur quarterly and guest speakers have included industry experts, diversity experts, and sector leaders.

Driving change: gender equity in new zealand’s electricity sector

Tuesday, 12 November 2024, Wellington and online

We had a fantastic evening at our executive sponsor Transpower’s office, discussing the importance of measurement in driving change and the importance of reporting on progress.

The Minister for Women Hon Nicola Grigg gave the keynote speech and it was serendipitous timing as the following day the Minister released the new Gender Pay Gay toolkit (available here).

Transpower’s Executive General Manager Chantelle Bramley presented sector led research on the gender pay gap before moderating a panel session with Anna Chalmers (Deputy Secretary Engagement, Policy & Delivery at Ministry for Women), James Kilty (Chief Executive Powerco), Tracey Hickman (Chief Wholesale Officer at Genesis) and Tracey Kai (Chief Executive at Electricity Networks Aotearoa).
